SonicCaption is a Chrome and Edge browser extension that adds real-time bilingual subtitles to any video or audio playing in a tab — YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, Zoom, Google Meet, online courses, anything with audio. No uploads, no separate app, no waiting for transcription to finish — install the extension, pick your two languages, hit Start, and read along live as the audio plays. Target users are language learners watching content in their target language, non-native professionals attending meetings or webinars in a second language, and global teams who need real-time understanding without pre-translated content. The extension supports an extensive language set (English, Chinese both scripts, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese-BR, etc.) and bilingual display means the original and translation appear together so learners can compare in context. Compared to YouTube''s built-in auto-translate captions, SonicCaption works on platforms YouTube doesn''t cover (Twitch streams, Zoom calls, courses) and gives bilingual side-by-side display rather than just one translation. Compared to dedicated translation apps that require uploading audio, SonicCaption runs live in the browser tab with no file handling. The trade-offs are the usual real-time AI trade-offs: occasional latency, accuracy degrades on noisy audio, and browser-extension-only means no native mobile or desktop-app distribution.
