SurfSense

SurfSense is an open-source, team-oriented alternative to Google's NotebookLM that enables organizations to connect multiple large language models to their internal knowledge sources for collaborative AI-powered workflows. The platform allows teams to centralize company documents, emails, and cloud storage data from sources like Notion, Google Drive, and Gmail, then interact with this information in real-time through an intelligent chat interface. By supporting over 100 leading LLMs and enabling on-premises deployment options through tools like vLLM, Ollama, and llama.cpp, SurfSense provides flexibility for organizations with varying security and customization requirements. The platform distinguishes itself through its emphasis on real-time team collaboration, transforming static company documents into multiplayer workspaces where multiple users can simultaneously edit, discuss, and refine content together. Beyond text-based interactions, SurfSense enables teams to generate multimedia content such as podcasts from their knowledge bases, which can then be collaboratively edited and refined. The system provides cited answers with traceable source references, allowing team members to verify information and maintain transparency about where AI-generated insights originate. SurfSense's feature set emphasizes seamless integration with existing enterprise tools and workflows, offering capabilities such as live presence indicators during collaboration, inline commenting and context addition to chats and documents, and intelligent search across unified knowledge bases. The platform's architecture supports both cloud deployment and local inference, making it suitable for teams with varying data privacy concerns or infrastructure preferences. By positioning itself as both an open-source project and an enterprise collaboration tool, SurfSense targets organizations seeking to implement internal AI assistants while maintaining control over their data and model selection.
